Preview: South Africa v Mexico

Well, this is the game we are eagerly anticipating. Bafana Bafana would welcome the skillful Mexican in front of the expected huge home crowd. Their coach, Carlos Alberto Farreira has confirmed that he would name an unchanged squad for this match. The team is: Itumeleng Khune; Siboniso Gaxa, Lucas Thwala, Bongani Khumalo, Aaron Mokoena; Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Steven Pienaar, Teko Modise, Siphiwe Tshabalala; Katlego Mphela. As most of the African team does, their strength would be on their physical, so they would play with ball on the ground rather than on their head. Against the Mexican, I can’t see this as an advantage. They are well known for their skills and techniques, which make them difficult to catch on ground. Vela and Hernandez would possess plenty of problems to the host, even super-sub Blanco could provide a killer finishing. Their wings occupied by Guardado and Dos Santos are too quick to handle by the African as well. Marquez could be a bit slow at the back, but I don’t think Mphela can make well use of that as well. Moreover the Mexican is often plays on high altitude stadiums of their own as well. So that would not be a crucial advantage for South Africa. I can’t see this tie to swing any other direction then to the Mexican.

Player to watch (South Africa): Aaron Mokoena
As the captain, Mokoena would be highly relied upon to resist the Mexican attacks. With some English Premier League experiences, he needs to perform admirably and rock solid if his team is going to stand any chance of creating an upset.

Player to watch (Mexico): Javier Hernandez
The talented striker has been in a lethal form recently. He is a complete forward – fast and intelligent, with remarkable shooting ability and impressive aerial power for a player only 1.75m tall. I would foresee he is going to grab one or two goals in this match.

Predicted score line: Mexico to win 2-0
